Our School

Welcome to Southwest High School where we believe "Everyday is Ubuntu."  Southwest has a rich amazing history that expands over 5 decades. We are proud to continue the traditions of this great school.

In 2005 the Macon and Bibb County community showed its desire to improve schools throughout the county with the passing of the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sale Tax (SPLOST). The ESPLOST provided funding for the construction of a new Southwest High School that was completed and opened in August of 2009. The thirty-four point eight million dollar facility, located on the former grounds of McEvoy Middle School on Williamson Road, boasts two hundred thousand square feet. The new campus has the capacity to hold twelve hundred students. The facility includes a six hundred seat auditorium, a twelve hundred seat gymnasium and a courtyard with outdoor classroom capabilities

Southwest High School produced NBA basketball greats Norm Nixon & Jeff Malone. The school was also nationally known for its marching band, "The Southwest Marching Patriots Band," or the "Big Red Machine," under the direction of Bill Hunter and Oscar Jackson.
